AWC calls for 2021 nominations of farm leaders to join board of directors and regional representatives

The Alberta Wheat Commission (AWC) is seeking nominations from wheat farmers in all Alberta regions to join AWC’s board directors and regional representatives. Positions open for nominations include two directors and three regional representatives in Region 3, one director in Region 2 to fulfill a vacant two-year term, along with one director-at-large from any region. The term of office for directors and regional representatives is three years.

Region 2 consists of south-central Alberta including Calgary and surrounding counties, and east to the Special Areas. Region 3 consists of central Alberta, including Lacombe and surrounding counties, Red Deer and Clearwater County. To qualify for the director-at-large position, you can farm in any region.

Wheat producers from all regions are encouraged to nominate local leaders that will be strong representatives of farmers in their region and positive contributors to the development of research, agronomic extension, market development and policy. The elected board of directors and regional representatives will serve Alberta wheat producers by providing strategic direction to the initiatives and investments of AWC, while upholding the mission to increase the profitability of Alberta wheat producers.

“Farmer representation is fundamental for AWC and I encourage farmers from across the province, young and experienced, to get involved by bringing your knowledge and ideas to the table,” says Todd Hames, AWC chair. “Through AWC, farmers have the opportunity to contribute to research, market access and development, agriculture policy, grower extension, among other key areas.”

Nomination forms can be downloaded on our elections page and must be returned to the AWC office by Friday, October 29, 2021 by fax (403-717-1966), email (bkennedy@albertawheatbarley.com) or mail (200-6815, 8 St NE, Calgary, AB, T2E7H7). All wheat producers will receive a package in the mail with more information and a nomination form.
