Research Mentorship, Agronomy Update, Agronomy Updates Basics, AFC

Hello everyone,

There are four items in today’s Shop Talk:

  • First, Alberta Barley, Alberta Canola Producers Commission, Alberta Pulse Growers and Alberta Wheat Commission are partnering up to equip provincial crop researchers with a deeper understanding of commercial barley, canola, peas and wheat crop production systems so that funded research projects and their results can be more readily adopted on commercial farms. This Research Mentorship Program is a new initiative for 2022 and an overview of the program can be found in the attached file. At this point, we are still working out details for the various events, but we wanted to make the research community aware of this new initiative. Look for more information in early 2022.
  • Second, Agronomy Update will be held January 11 & 12, 2022. This online virtual event will provide timely information on nutrient management, integrated pest management, soil and water management, crop management and professional development. The cost for the 2 days is only $40 and you can register here.
  • Third, Agronomy Update Basics will be held as a bonus event on January 5, 2022. This session will cover soil sampling, understanding and interpreting soil test reports, all things seeding, fundamentals of weed control, insects, disease management and field scouting basics. The agenda for this can be found here.
  • Fourth, the Agriculture Funding Consortium funding decisions for the 2021 proposals will be announced on January 18, 2022.

If you have graduate students, colleagues or other contacts that may benefit from this Shop Talk with Sheri newsletter, please let them know that they can subscribe and read previous editions here. Or pass along my coordinates and I will add them to my mailing list directly.

Happy Holidays,
