Introduction to April 2021
By Jeremy Boychyn (M.Sc)(P.Ag), Agronomy Research Extension Specialist
If seeders have not already started moving, they are likely ready to start rolling once conditions are conducive to planting. As we move into seeding season, a large portion of the province lacks moisture. While recent snowfall has created some temporary relief, more precipitation will be needed to produce strong crops.
In this edition of the newsletter, we discuss: why emergence counts are important and how to conduct them, malt barley seeding rates, optimizing seeding depth, broadcast nitrogen risks, and other topics related to seeding.
Extending well wishes and stay safe as we move through this fast-paced season. As always, if you have any agronomic questions moving forward, feel free to reach out at firstname.lastname@example.org.
