Reverse Agronomy Update, ICAC2 Call for LOIs, AFC Call for LOIs, AWC&AB Updated Research Priorities

Hello everyone,

I hope you are well. There are four items in today’s Shop Talk:

  1. Save-the-date! Alberta Barley, Alberta Canola Producers Commission, Alberta Pulse Growers and Alberta Wheat Commission have been busy planning our Researcher Mentorship Program program. Our first event is ‘Reverse Agronomy Update’ held on Thursday, March 17 from 9am to 12 noon via zoom. Listen to our three farmer panelists: Hannah Konschuh, D’Arcy Hilgartner and Jesse Meyer as they discuss the realities of farming – what they do, why they do it, and their challenges. There will be breakout sessions to chat with the farmer panelists in small group settings. Registration will open February 22, 2022 and close on March 15, 2022. Note, there is no charge for this event.
  2. WGRF is inviting Letters of Intent (LOI’s) associated with an Integrated Crop Agronomy Cluster #2. LOI’s are due April 1, 2022. Please see the attached: cross-cutting priorities and cluster prioritiesrequest for LOIs and the LOI template.
  3. The Agriculture Funding Consortium (AFC) LOI opened on February 3, 2022 with LOIs due on April 7, 2022.
  4. Alberta Wheat and Barley Commissions are undergoing Research Priority Setting Sessions with our farmer board members. Updated Alberta Wheat Commission and Alberta Barley research priorities will be communicated to scientists in mid to late February 2022 and will be important considerations for any scientist planning to submit AFC LOIs. Details will be shared in the next edition of Shop Talk with Sheri.

If you have graduate students, colleagues or other contacts that may benefit from this Shop Talk with Sheri newsletter, please let them know that they can subscribe and read previous editions here. Or pass along my coordinates and I will add them to my mailing list directly.

All the best,

Sheri Strydhorst
